Set in Stone – Friday Fictioneers

Friday Fictioneers is a weekly group hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who chooses a photo prompt to inspire writers to produce a 100 word piece of flash fiction.  Do use the link to her blog if you are interested in joining the group.  It’s a great way to get involved in writing.

Set in stone

She had wandered further than intended and was startled to find herself at the water’s edge.  She watched the relentless pounding of the waves, struck by the thought that, in spite of this buffeting, the rocks stood firm.  The only defence against the encroaching tide.

She thought about the flood of comments that threatened to engulf her. The negative attitudes that were eroding her confidence, wearing her down.  What could she do to defend herself?  The rocks offered an answer.  Build a sea wall.

She heard voices calling her and gave a wry smile.  Time to lay the first brick!

  1. A great analogy and a really interesting interpretation of the prompt. Hopefully with her wall in place the negative comments will wash over her, leaving her unharmed.
