The journey – Friday Fictioneers

It’s time to write another piece for Friday Fictioneers!  Thank you to Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who hosts this venture.  Each week Rochelle chooses a photo prompt to inspire writers to produce a 100 word piece of flash fiction.  Do use the link to her blog if you are interested in joining the group.  It’s a great way to get involved in writing!

The journey

My friend had come to me and said, “I know the way.  Let’s go.”

We set off eagerly on the long journey that took us out of town and onto rough pathways winding upwards through the trees.  We came to a clearing and stood in silence looking at the dead tree that held its arms out as if to bar our way.

Shaking his head, my friend cried out, “I’m lost.”

I slowly turned towards the gaping maw of the rock face beside me and heard its mocking laughter tell me that my search for self had been in vain.

  1. Dear Edith,

It sounds like this person might be barking up the wrong tree. (Couldn’t help myself). Self is sometimes hard to find even when it’s staring us right back in the face. Nicely done.
