The river was deep and wide and had always been a barrier that hindered access to his fields. At last, a bridge was under construction. The farmer looked with satisfaction at the pattern of chains that would hold the pillars in place.
“You could have saved yourself the trouble and sold the land to me,” grumbled his neighbour. “You won’t be needing it much longer.”
The farmer lifted his old grey head. “There is a purpose in doing it now.” He turned and gestured towards the young man who was walking towards them. “I am building this bridge for him!”
