Thank you to Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who hosts Friday Fictioneers. Each week Rochelle chooses a photo prompt to inspire writers to produce a 100 word piece of flash fiction. Do use the link to her blog if you are interested in joining the group. It’s a great way to get involved in writing.
Some readers may see familiar elements in my story this week. That’s because I have chosen to continue a previous story but with a change of voice. If you’d like to look at previous extracts, you’ll find them here. A glimmer of light – Friday Fictioneers and An unexpected reunion – Friday Fictioneers
Many thanks to everyone who takes the time to like or to comment on my writing.

Where the heart is
It didn’t look like a comfortable place to live but the warmth of our welcome made up for its appearance.
I had been tending my husband in the shelter of a tree with little hope that either of us would survive. When I awoke one morning to find a small group around us, I trusted to their good intentions and they moved us to this building. With their unstinting care, Arin recovered from what I’d thought was a fatal wounding.
On the day these generous people invited us to remain with them, we felt we had come home at last!
That’s a nice, happy ending to an ominous start.

A happy ending, but who are these people – and will they let them ever leave!

Thank you for asking. They are good-hearted people who responded to the needs of a couple in a desperate situation and then took them to their hearts.

I too wondered why the people did that

Thank you for your response. They did it because they are people who care about others as well as themselves and chose to offer a helping hand in a desperate situation.

A reminder that even in these troubled times there are still folk who care.

Quite so! It’s so easy to be overwhelmed by the bad and sad news that surrounds us and we need to be aware that there are lots of good, caring people out there! Thank you for your response.

Such a lovely story nice to hear of such generosity.

I’m glad you liked this. I find it particularly touching when the generosity comes from those whose circumstances are not necessarily the best. Thank you for your response.

I like this–looking into the future, I’m guessing, and finding help and hope in a world gone amok.

That’s the kind of thing that reaffirms one’s faith in humanity.

Thank you for your comment. It’s so good to have that reaffirmation. The humanity is there around us but, perhaps, not always as much in evidence as we would like it to be!

I’m glad you chose to emphasise the good in people. I’m sure the group who took the couple in will benefit from their presence in the future.

We need to highlight the good people more often and to reinforce the positive relationships. As you say, they can be very productive in the future. Thank you for your response.
