Where the heart is – Friday Fictioneers

Thank you to Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who hosts Friday Fictioneers.  Each week Rochelle chooses a photo prompt to inspire writers to produce a 100 word piece of flash fiction.  Do use the link to her blog if you are interested in joining the group.  It’s a great way to get involved in writing.

Some readers may see familiar elements in my story this week.  That’s because I have chosen to continue a previous story but with a change of voice.  If you’d like to look at previous extracts, you’ll find them here.  A glimmer of light – Friday Fictioneers and An unexpected reunion – Friday Fictioneers

Many thanks to everyone who takes the time to like or to comment on my writing.

Where the heart is

It didn’t look like a comfortable place to live but the warmth of our welcome made up for its appearance.

I had been tending my husband in the shelter of a tree with little hope that either of us would survive.  When I awoke one morning to find a small group around us, I trusted to their good intentions and they moved us to this building.  With their unstinting care, Arin recovered from what I’d thought was a fatal wounding.

On the day these generous people invited us to remain with them, we felt we had come home at last!
