A cruel day – Friday Fictioneers

Thank you to Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who hosts Friday Fictioneers.  Each week Rochelle chooses a photo prompt to inspire writers to produce a 100 word piece of flash fiction.  Do use the link to her blog if you are interested in joining the group.  It’s a great way to get involved in writing.

A cruel day

She was on a rescue mission but there was no-one left to save.  With a heavy heart, she surveyed the scene of devastation.

A voice shouted, “Search any buildings still standing.”  Knowing it was hopeless, she moved to obey the command.

Kicking aside the ashes, she picked up a charred fragment of paper and read the words, “See, the day of the Lord is coming – a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger – to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it.” *

Dropping to her knees she cried out in desperation, “That day has come.  Do it now!”

* The quotation is from The Bible (New International Version – UK) Isaiah 13:9

  1. It seemed weird to “like” this dark story. I liked the writing, I appreciated the dark feel and dark outcome. Nicely done.
