The man who fed the crows – Friday Fictioneers

Thank you to Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who hosts Friday Fictioneers.  Each week Rochelle chooses a photo prompt to inspire writers to produce a 100 word piece of flash fiction.  Do use the link to her blog if you are interested in joining the group.  It’s a great way to get involved in writing.

The man who fed the crows

The old man came out of his house every morning, carrying a bag of bread.  As soon as he set foot in his garden, crows descended in a black cloud.  I watched him moving across the grass, distributing the food and talking to each in turn.

On the day he failed to appear, the crows sat along the railings in a silent vigil.  When his body was removed from the building, they raised their voices in a poignant farewell before taking flight.

The relationship between man and birds had touched my heart.  I was surprised how much I missed them.
