Flying High – Friday Fictioneers

Thank you to Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who hosts Friday Fictioneers.  Each week Rochelle chooses a photo prompt to inspire writers to produce a 100 word piece of flash fiction.  Do use the link to her blog if you are interested in joining the group.  It’s a great way to get involved in writing.

Flying High

“You’ll never get a place to study English,” her teacher said.

Connie’s heart sank.  She confirmed these words by abandoning exam preparation and getting mediocre results.  She didn’t bother with applications to university.

Despite long years of resentment, she gained valuable experience and a different point of view.  Resuming her studies, she excelled in all areas.

After her interview, the headteacher predicted she would inspire students in the English department.

Pondering her success, she re-read the faded note from the friend who changed her life.

“Be the person you can be.  Throw out all the garbage that’s holding you back.”

  1. If only all teachers would learn that most if not all students can mature and can bring something to the table, given half a change. One of my English teachers – well the less said the better.

    1. Thank you for your heartfelt response. The problem with the comments that some teachers make is that the damage cannot be fully repaired. You never forget the way the comments made you feel.
