The tide turns – Friday Fictioneers

Friday Fictioneers is a weekly group hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who chooses a photo prompt to inspire writers to produce a 100 word piece of flash fiction.  Do use the link to her blog if you are interested in joining the group.  It’s a great way to get involved in writing.

The tide turns

“There it is.  The entrance to the harbour.  Not long now till we begin our new life.”  He laughed, fixing his penetrating gaze on her.

She had trained herself not to react.  She stood passively.  Waiting.

“You’ll be working non-stop, pulling in the money for me!  Don’t just stand there.  Get me a drink.”

She watched as he drank.  There wasn’t long to wait. He gasped and clutched desperately at his chest.  This time, when he looked at her, she smiled.

She turned away from him to look across the water.  “There it is,” she said.  “Liberty. My new life!”

    1. It is tragic that after so many, many years of human development there are still people who mistreat and exploit others. I guess we have to keep on telling the stories until it stops. Thank you for your appreciative comment.
