At the end of the day – Friday Fictioneers

Friday Fictioneers is a weekly group hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who chooses a photo prompt to inspire writers to produce a 100 word piece of flash fiction.  Do use the link to her blog if you are interested in joining the group.  It’s a great way to get involved in writing.

At the end of the day

I looked along the wires and counted them.  Ninety-three in total.  A month ago there had been fewer than fifty.  Two months ago, fewer than ten.  The drop in temperature was a factor but there was something else.  They were gathering for a particular reason.  And not just here.  They were meeting in trees, on apartment blocks, on office buildings.  The numbers were growing.

A loud sound ripped through the air, commanding attention.  Hudd was calling.  I stretched, flapped my wings and rose into the air.  All around my fellow crows did the same.  The sky blackened.  It was time.
