A moment of hope – Friday Fictioneers

Friday Fictioneers is a weekly group hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who chooses a photo prompt to inspire writers to produce a 100 word piece of flash fiction. Do use the link to her blog if you are interested in joining the group. It’s a great way to get involved in writing.

A moment of hope

The book lay on the ledge where she had placed it all that time ago. For years she had studied it; making sense of its symbols, understanding its logic. She had left it for a brief moment. When she returned it was nowhere to be seen.

She was scorned and shunned for its loss. Now it was found. She would be restored, redeemed.

A faint noise made her look round. Aart stood there. His smile made her shudder. She turned to pick up the book. It had gone. Fighting off despair, she barely noticed the footsteps behind her moving away.
