Lost and found – Friday Fictioneers

Friday Fictioneers is a weekly group hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who chooses a photo prompt to inspire writers to produce a 100 word piece of flash fiction. Do use the link to her blog if you are interested in joining the group. It’s a great way to get involved in writing.

Lost and found

Finding the house had not been easy. A succession of diversions and dead ends. Time wasted. Hope set aside.

The building stood as it had in his mother’s paintings. He had watched with quiet delight as pictures emerged from her paintbrush. His early childhood had passed before he became aware that the subject of her work was always the same. It took him longer to recognise that the sun never lit up the scene.

Now a pale sun mocked as he stared, stricken by the changes made by circumstances and time. He could never tell her. Her heart would break.
