Friday Fictioneers is a weekly group hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields who chooses a photo prompt to inspire writers to produce a 100 word piece of flash fiction. Do use the link to her blog if you are interested in joining the group. It’s a great way to get involved in writing.

There are no easy answers

They sat in the bar next to the window. His companion had, as usual, struck up a conversation with the next table but he felt too tense for that. He looked out at the various buildings and tried to imagine what part they played in the lives of others. To him, they meant nothing.

He turned as the door opened and the man he was meeting walked in.

“Where is Constance?” The newcomer asked abruptly.

His companion glanced at him, eyebrows raised.

He looked through the window again. Where indeed? So many places. So many possibilities. She could be anywhere.

  1. Constance dipped, I don’t blame her – especially if her name is meant to carry double meaning. As in: there is no connection for this narrator who has lost hope in humanity – no constant to return to.
