Gone without goodbye

There have been many stories circulating in my head over many years. Some I have shared, most I have not. A recent conversation prompted me to seek out Friday Fictioneers. I was intrigued and then inspired. Surely this was the opportunity I had been waiting for.

Gone without goodbye

The knock on the door startled them both.

The woman glanced at her companion who nodded and left the room. Hushed voices crept back to her. She sensed an urgency. Her companion returned. “Elden needs to speak to you.”

The baby in her arms whimpered as her companion took him.

Elden was waiting in ‘The Square’ where they were visible to anyone needing to observe them. As he spoke she looked over his shoulder at the immense window that revealed the land beyond the river. Not for the first time she wished she was there.

“We must go,” he said.
